Born in 1972, Linda Khatri is an American-born, London-based artist. She holds an BFA in Surface Pattern Design from Syracuse University and began her professional career in textile design within the fashion industry before transitioning her focus to interior design. Her background in these industries has significantly informed her artistic approach, particularly in relation to her use of bold pattern and composition.
Khatri’s practice explores the dynamic intersection of painting and sculpture while creating a compelling dialogue in spacial composition. She works with the goal of encouraging viewers to see painting differently, not just as something to look at, but to experience. Her subject matter navigates themes of religion, conflict and reincarnation; concepts she expresses through the interplay of bold, hard-edged forms and soft blending shapes of colour. Central to her practice is a sustained investigation of suppressed tension and unresolved conflict, which she approaches as a meditative process of renewal and rebirth.
Khatri has been commissioned for large sale, site specific installations by The July (Amsterdam) and Convene (London). She has exhibited at White Conduit Projects (London), ING Discerning Eye Mall Galleries (London), and Irving Gallery (Oxford). Most recently, Khatri curated ‘Flex and Fluff’ at ACME Glassyard (London). Khatri was one of several artists invited to take part in ‘Together Through Art’, a charity exhibition and sale at Mall Galleries in support of Homes from Home led by The Sick Children’s Trust.
Khatri is a member of High Vis Projects, a London based artist-run collaborative initiative that fosters dialogue among several contemporary artists whose practices engage with abstraction and non-representational art. She is also the co-founder of UK Friends of I-India, which supports I-India, a Jaipur based NGO dedicated to delivering life changing programmes for street children.
